Blog Entry #1: My Media Use And Creation Over 24 Hours
8:00 - Today, I had morning Slacks to respond to. One included sharing this as a project idea for an upcoming class. Scrolling through Instagram to find this project has created more ceramics-related posts on my discover page.
9:00 - Today I listened to Lauryn Hill while showering--lots of my Spotify recommended playlists today were around R&B and '90s rap.
9:30 - I didn't have to go to work today, so I took it easy and made breakfast. I scrolled on Instagram a bit more and caught up on messages. I received messages in response to the story I'd posted the night before.
While on Instagram I started looking at healthy food content since I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat for breakfast. I ended up doom scrolling diet and fitness.
Instagram is notorious for pushing disordered eating, and my media is a perfect example of that. To be fair, this could be influenced by my brand interests, such as Darc Sport, and my age, and location (which is a health-centric city). Instagram doesn't have access to my biometric data, but if it did, the discover page would be even more fitness and diet oriented.
12:00 - I went to the gym and started listening to my workout playlist of the day. My workout playlists made by Spotify are based off of the music that I have saved. They're also likely based on my behavior data, such as what songs I listen to the most.
15:30 - I start doing some school work, and read some of the news to procrastinate. I checked out the ASU provided subscriptions to the NYT and WSJ. I try to look at a variety of opinions and biases in the news, so I think that a lot of the news that appears when I search things up in Google are from a variety of sources.
20:00 - I'm now eating dinner and watching Joy Luck Club on Prime. Prime will probably push more drama and immigrant life movies in my recommendations.
23:00 - I'm wearing my Apple Watch to track my biometric sleep data, which isn't shared anywhere else.

8:00 - I'm on my way to work now, with no time before for any media consumption as I was running late. From the previous day, Spotify is still recommending R&B and '90s rap, so I'm listening to my own playlist of Americana.
What I Discovered: I avoid cookies naturally, but this past week has made me hyper aware of it. That being said, I'm not reconsidering how I interact with media or how my information and content is being used. The way that Instagram pushed my discover feed posts was confirmation of my expectations. While I dislike how much of my information is on the internet, I find it rather inevitable. I'll continue to prevent what I can, but I don't find much use out of agonizing over it.
My story from the night before.

One of my all-time favorite films.
